Abstract

Surface technology and surface analysis are key areas in modern materials science. Application specific modifications of the surface chemistry by optimized processes are necessary in many cases for the fabrication of high-technology composite materials as well as for state-of-the-art manufacturing processes in consumer industry. The monitoring and control of modifications on organic surfaces require analytical techniques which are highly sensitive, non-destructive and yielding detailed information about the chemical composition on the surface. Among the discussed topics in this contribution are the characterization of modified organic surface species using IR and ion spectroscopic techniques, and contact-angle measurements.
